Our Ramadan information is carefully examined by a qualified Islamic reviewer to help ensure that religious details, references, and guidance are presented accurately and responsibly.

Ramadan is the best time to give, because every good deed is multiplied. You can mix obligatory giving (Zakat and Zakat al-Fitr) with voluntary sadaqah and ongoing projects (sadaqah jariyah) to make the most of the month.

Fulfill Your Religious Obligations

Pay Your Zakat. Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It purifies your wealth and helps those in need. If your savings meet the nisab threshold, calculate 2.5% of your zakatable wealth and give it to eligible recipients.

Give Zakat al-Fitr before Eid. This is a small but compulsory charity paid on behalf of every family member. It ensures the poor have food to celebrate Eid. Pay it before the Eid prayer.

Pay Fidya or Kaffarah. If you cannot fast due to illness, pregnancy, or old age, you pay Fidya for each missed fast. If you break a fast deliberately, Kaffarah requires feeding 60 people.

Feed the Hungry

Arrange an Iftar feast. Arranging food to help someone break their fast is a highly rewarding act. You may arrange iftar in the mosque, refugee camps, or even another needy country.

Ramadan Food Package Donation. Several charities distribute food packets consisting of flour, rice, sugar, pulses, cooking oil, and tea.

Join the #Give30 Challenge. Donate the cost of your daily meals or coffee to a food bank. If you're fasting, you're already saving on food — give that amount to those who have nothing.

Organize a Community Iftar. Bring your neighbors, friends, or community together. Share the blessings of breaking fast with others—especially those who may be alone.

Support Orphans and Children

Sponsor An Orphan. The Prophet (may peace be upon him) has stated that the person who sponsors an orphan will have him as a companion in Paradise. Sponsorship usually includes providing food, education, and clothes.

Provide New Clothes for Eid Day. Many families are unable to purchase new clothes for Eid. Your donation will help provide children from needy families with their clothing and gifts for Eid Day.

Donate Toys or School Supplies. It is not only about providing needy children with basic requirements like food. They need more; they need love and care.

Provide Clean Water

Water Well and Hand Pump. "The best sadaqah is the one that gives continuous benefit." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said this, and building a water well or hand pump is the best way to fulfill his teachings.

Help in Water Projects in Undeserving Areas. Not all people have access to pure drinking water. Through your donation, you will change many lives and prevent many illnesses due to water contamination.

Support Healthcare & Education

Fund the Treatment of Medical Conditions. You can contribute towards cancer treatment, surgical procedures, or essential drugs that poor people cannot afford.

Support Health Care for Mothers and Babies. These donations will assist in providing antenatal, postnatal, and life-saving nutritional support to babies and their mothers.

Help in Funding a Child's Education. Make an effort to break the chain of poverty by supporting the education of a child. Education is an eternal gift.

Support orphanages and schools. Help us to build schools and pay teachers.

Volunteer Your Time

Be a volunteer at a local food bank. Lots of charities will require additional volunteers during Ramadan. Assist in preparing meals and distributing food parcels.

Participate in Iftar at a local mosque. Mosques tend to organize big community iftars. Join a volunteer team in arranging it, serving food, or cleaning up after the iftar.

Pay a visit to the elderly or to people who are sick. Just visiting such people can be of great significance to them. It was said that visiting the sick is a kind of charity.

Give Away Your Skills. For example, you can tutor for free, help someone prepare his or her resume, babysit to give Mother some time off, etc.

Family Charity Ideas

Family-Friendly Ideas

Start a Ramadan Charity Jar. Decorate a jar along with the family members and place your charity in the jar throughout Ramadan. Count your donations together after Ramadan and choose how to spend them.

Create a Sadaqah Box with Your Children. Allow your children to make their own charity box and encourage them to make contributions every day. It helps them learn about generosity even at a young age.

Create a Ramadan Good Deeds Calendar. On each day of Ramadan, you will perform an act of kindness, such as smiling at a person, helping with chores, or giving some money.

Make Eid Cards for the People Living in Shelters. A kind word will make anyone feel happy. Allow your children to make beautiful cards for the people living in shelters or care homes.

Make Care Packages. Fill your package with dates, juice, food items, notes, or anything else. Give your packages to your neighbors, homeless people, or poor families.

Arrange a fundraising Iftar. Have an Iftar that collects money for something you want to do. You will invite friends and family members who will contribute money instead of spending it eating out.

Donate Pre-Loved Clothes. Clear out your wardrobe and give gently used clothes to a charity or a family in need.

Creative Ideas

  • ✓Write Letters of Hope. Many charitable organizations write letters by hand to refugees or children facing crises. They can help provide inspiration and support.
  • ✓Buy Coffee or Food for Strangers. A simple act of kindness towards strangers can make them feel loved.
  • ✓Distribute dates at the mosque. Take a pack of dates and distribute them among others when breaking the fast.
  • ✓Organize a Small Charity Drive. Children can also organize a charity drive for their favorite cause. An 11-year-old managed to collect donations for treatments during Ramadan.
