Our Ramadan information is carefully examined by a qualified Islamic reviewer to help ensure that religious details, references, and guidance are presented accurately and responsibly.
This is the most important "dua" for Sehri, as it is the intention (niyyah) to fast. It can be made in your heart, but it is also recommended to recite it verbally. While the intention can be made from the night before until just before Fajr, it is best to make it at the time of Sehri.
Wa bisawmi ghadin nawaytu min shahri Ramadan.
"I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan."
Another version of this intention is:
Nawaitu sawma ghadin 'an adā'i fardhi shahri Ramadhāna hādhihis sanati lillāhi ta'ālā.
"I intend to observe the fast of tomorrow in fulfillment of the obligatory duty of the month of Ramadan this year, for the sake of Allah, the Exalted."
This dua is a beautiful way to ask Allah for His blessings in the pre-dawn meal itself.
Allahumma barik lana fi suhurina.
"O Allah, bless us in our Suhoor."
This extended dua asks for help, protection, and forgiveness from Allah.
"I intend to keep the fast tomorrow in the month of Ramadan. O Allah, help me to stand in prayer during it, guide me by its sanctity, grant me well-being through it, and forgive me through Your forgiveness, O Allah."
You can also make this personal supplication:
Allahumma inni as'aluka barakatas-sahur wa quwwatan 'alas-siyam.
"O Allah, I ask You for the blessing of suhoor and strength for fasting."
Like any meal, it is recommended to begin your Sehri with the name of Allah.
Bismillah.
"In the name of Allah."
If you forget to say it at the beginning, you can say:
Bismillahi fi awwalihi wa akhirihi.
"In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end."
May Allah accept your fasts and answer your supplications.
